EWOS - Introduction to Weightlifting for Swimmers


Swim Ireland, in collaboration with Weightlifting Ireland, is delighted to offer an introductory Strength and Conditioning session. Age 13-17

Event Description:

Swim Ireland, in collaboration with Weightlifting Ireland, is delighted to offer an introductory Strength and Conditioning session for young swimmers aged 13–17 as part of the European Week of Sport.The session will introduce young athletes to the benefits of strength and conditioning for swimming and provide an opportunity to learn fundamental strength, movement and lifting techniques in a safe and supportive environment, led by qualified Weightlifting Ireland coaches, including European-level high-performance champions.

No previous gym or weightlifting experience is needed — just come ready to learn, move and have fun!

  • Learn how strength and conditioning can support swimming performance and athletic development.
  • Develop fundamental movement and strength skills.
  • Learn safe and effective lifting techniques.
  • Get an introduction to weightlifting and strength training.
  • Build confidence using gym equipment and training in a strength & conditioning environment.
  • Meet other young swimmers with an interest in S&C and athletic development.

What to bring

  • Comfortable sports clothing
  • Clean indoor trainers
  • A water bottle
  • A small towel, if you wish

This initiative is being delivered as part of European Week of Sport, encouraging young people to get active, try new activities and discover the benefits of lifelong participation in sport.

This is a European Commission led initiative funded by Sport Ireland as part of European Week of Sport, which aims to increase the level of participation in sport and physical activity in the EU and beyond.
