Stephen Downey fundraising for Irish Cancer Society in Irish Life Dublin Marathon 2025

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. This October I will be running the Dublin Marathon in aid of the Irish Cancer Society. Every one of us knows someone whose life has been touched by cancer whether it’s a friend, a family member, or a neighbour. In May 2024, I was diagnosed with Non-Hogkins Lymphoma and I didn’t know what was ahead of me. Thanks to science and the superhero doctors and nurses of St James’ Hospital and St Lukes Rathgar after six month of treatment, I was told I was in remission. I am determined to run my first marathon within a year of remission and show others in a similar situation to me, what's possible after treatment. Any donation is really appreciated.

About Irish Cancer Society

Cancer is the most common cause of death in Ireland with more than 9,000 people dying each year. That's almost 25 people dying from cancer every day across Ireland. An average of 1 person every hour. However, thanks to earlier detection, improved care and targeted treatments, more people are surviving cancer than ever before. Today, there are 200,000 cancer survivors in Ireland. The Irish Cancer Society are working towards a future where nobody dies from cancer, and everyone affected by the disease will have access to world class treatment and support. Typically receiving only 5% of income from the Government, your support helps provide key services to ensure no one has to face cancer alone and funds vital cancer research with over €30 million invested since 2010.
