Tara, Aideen and Paddy are running for Declan fundraising for Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association in Irish Life Dublin Marathon 2026

Tara, Aideen and Paddy are running the Dublin Marathon this year in honor of our late father/father in law Declan Smith. As many of you know, Declan was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in August 2024. He sadly lost his battle with MND on the 22nd of June 2026. We hope to raise as much money as possible for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association, who supported Declan, and all of our family, from the moment he was diagnosed and every moment throughout. A note from Aideen & Tara : Our Dad was always such an active man, he loved sport, especially GAA. He loved being out in the Garden and fixing things (even when they didn't need fixing!) He loved playing with his Grandkids and he loved going on trips away with our Mam. Motor Neurone Disease took all this from him. Every month brought new challenges but the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Assocation were there guiding and helping both Dad and our family every step of the way. Our Dad passed away peacefully on the 22nd of June 2026. He is so deeply missed by us all. We hope by running the Dublin Marathon we can help raise as much funds as possible for the IMNDA and at the same time honor our amazing Dad. Thank you in advance, Tara, Aideen and Paddy

About Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association

The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA) is the only organisation of its kind in the country providing specialised services to families affected by Motor Neurone Disease. We offer consistent support to approximately 470 families across Ireland who otherwise would have nowhere else to turn. Everybody with MND has different needs at different stages of their journey and we are here to help and guide them every step of the way. The services provided by the IMNDA are immediate and free of charge for everyone registered with the Association. Key services include: • Access to 7 outreach nurses directly employed by the IMNDA and funded entirely by donations. • Access to a home care grant. • Access to specialised equipment on loan (e.g. wheelchairs, hoists, communication aids etc). • Access to funding towards counselling sessions for the person with MND and family members. Your support is absolutely vital. More than 85% of our income comes from fundraising and donations.
