Cliodhna Ruane fundraising for Aoibheanns Pink Tie in Irish Life Dublin Marathon 2025

On January 1st 2024 Róisín was diagnosed with ALL leukaemia 9 months after her Dad passed away from pancreatic cancer. Róisín had 8 months of intense treatment and in September she began the maintenance phase of her treatment. She has 8 chemo doses each week and every 4th week she gets a 9th dose in Crumlin. The treatment is not as invasive or debilitating as it was at the outset, and Róisín can now mostly do what other kids can do. She is still more vulnerable than other children and has a hard few days after every Crumlin visit. In our first few days in Crumlin I was made aware of the different supports available to us. I met with Linda from Aoibheann's Pink Tie and having walked in my shoes, I felt she really understood what I was feeling. Róisín turned 9 in our first few days in St. John's Ward, and on her birthday, Linda visited with a big 9 balloon, and a big birthday present for Róisín and sports vouchers for her older siblings Niamh and MacDara, who were visiting us for the first time that day. It was so unexpected and so lovely. Linda also provided me with a care package of toiletries taking another thing off my things to get list. Since then, we have received so much support from Aoibheann's Pink Tie. Róisín had many chemotherapy visits in Dublin, with many as outpatient appointments. Aoibheann's Pink Tie covered the cost of our hotel stays when we had consecutive day ward appointments. They pay for our hotel stay every four weeks ensuring I'm not pulling Róisín out of bed at 4:30am to drive to Dublin. They support families financially & logistically in a compassionate, empathetic way. We are still on our oncology journey but I'm hoping to raise some money so Aoibheann's Pink Tie can continue to offer support to other families. I appreciate you reading this and would be so appreciative of any support you can offer. Every euro counts. x
