Christy Crowley fundraising for Irish Cancer Society in Irish Life Dublin Marathon 2025

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Your support is really appreciated. Hello, my name is Christy Crowley and on the 26th of October I will be running Dublin City Marathon in aid of cancer research Ireland. As we all know Cancer knows no boundaries and affects each family, whether it be the individual themselves, brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, uncles, aunties or friends. I am proud to be stood here today having had my own battle with cancer not once, but twice, and now this is my chance to give back and help raise as much money possible for this worthy cause. In 2007 at the age of 9 I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphatic Leukaemia a cancer of the blood, which led to me missing all of 4th class in school, while getting homeschooled instead, lose my hair and my health deteriorated drastically with trips to Our lady's hospital in Crumlin and the mercy in Cork both very regular occurrences. However, after one year of intensive chemo I returned to school in 5th class and after a further 2.5 years remedy, In November 2010 I was officially out the other side and defeated ALL. In August 2019 I noticed a lump on my neck around the thyroid area and after an ultrasound and biopsy it wasn't clear what the lump was so the only option was to open up the area and see was the lump cancerous or not. After opening up the lump it was evident the lump was indeed cancerous and they removed half my thyroid on that occasion and a month later the second half of my thyroid was removed, thankfully the lump was caught early and this didn't cause me to have major treatment. Anyway that's enough about me, unfortunately not everybody is as lucky as me, so I kindly ask you to donate as no one knows who cancer will affect next! Thanks again!

About Irish Cancer Society

Cancer is the most common cause of death in Ireland with more than 9,000 people dying each year. That's almost 25 people dying from cancer every day across Ireland. An average of 1 person every hour. However, thanks to earlier detection, improved care and targeted treatments, more people are surviving cancer than ever before. Today, there are 200,000 cancer survivors in Ireland. The Irish Cancer Society are working towards a future where nobody dies from cancer, and everyone affected by the disease will have access to world class treatment and support. Typically receiving only 5% of income from the Government, your support helps provide key services to ensure no one has to face cancer alone and funds vital cancer research with over €30 million invested since 2010.
