Hello, I’m Ben, and I am going to run the Dublin Marathon in aid of the Rotunda Foundation. A little bit about me first; I am 40 (but I will be 41+1 day when running the marathon!), I live in Dublin, I am married to the most amazing woman Maryrose, and we have 2 healthy and beautiful boys Arthur and Walter, aged 6 and 4. I have never run a marathon in my life before! So why am I doing this? Well, the Rotunda Foundation was there for me and Maryrose when we needed them the most. Unfortunately, not all pregnancies or births go to plan. Hearing the words “I’m sorry but there is no heartbeat”. The deafening silence in a delivery suite at 2 in the morning when we long for the crackling cry of a newborn. The gentle nod and sympathetic smile from the midwife to me while I try to comfort my wife. The stillness and emptiness when returning home childless. The pain of a burial and the struggle back to normality. It’s hard. The Rotunda Foundation were there for us, and this is how I say, Thank You. For Rhodi…

About The Rotunda Foundation

In 1967, approval was given by the Master, Dr. Edwin Lillie and the Hospital’s Board of Governors, to establish an official fundraising arm of the Rotunda Hospital. The Rotunda Foundation (formerly know as Friends of the Rotunda) was then formed and incorporated as a Limited Company by Guarantee, without having a share capital, on the 23rd March 1973. The Charity is regulated by a Memorandum & Articles of Association under the Companies Act of 1963 and is governed by an elected volunteer Board of Directors to oversee the affairs of the Association and its Membership.
