On the morning of Darkness into Light 2026, communities across Northern Ireland will gather in the stillness before sunrise. There is something incredibly powerful about those early hours. This 5K walk begins in darkness and finishes as daylight breaks, symbolising the journey from despair to hope and from silence to open conversation. Whether you come with family, friends, colleagues, teammates, your dog on a lead, or choose to walk on your own, you are part of something bigger. Every step is taken in solidarity with those who are struggling and in remembrance of those we have lost.

Darkness Into Light is not about pace or performance. It is about presence. It is about showing up for one another. It is about creating space for emotion, reflection and connection as a new day begins.

Every step taken supports PIPS Suicide Prevention Ireland, a leading suicide prevention charity founded in 2003. PIPS Charity provides professional and compassionate support to thousands of people each year across Northern Ireland. Through crisis intervention, counselling, advocacy, befriending support and community outreach, the charity ensures that help is available when it is needed most.

PIPS Charity also delivers specialist children and young people’s services in Belfast for those aged 4 to 18, operates a Friday night crisis helpline when other services may be unavailable, and offers walk in crisis support for those who need immediate face to face help.

In 2024, 290 suicide deaths were registered in Northern Ireland. Behind every number is a family, a circle of friends and a community deeply affected. Darkness Into Light is a collective response to that reality. It is a commitment to prevention, early intervention and compassionate care.
