William Cremin fundraising for Recovery Haven Kerry
Prior to last year I had never heard of Recovery haven Kerry but over the last 3-4 months the service has become a vital cog in my every day life. I had never imagined I would be writing this type of bio about myself, On July 1st 2025 I received unexpected news that I had prostate cancer, not common I’m told for someone of my then age 38. To say it was a shock was an understatement, I felt completely lost and frustrated mostly. I didn’t like to admit it but it was eating away at me, most days were a struggle. Months passed and someone close to me noticed i wasn’t coping and suggested getting in contact with the recovery haven and I am very grateful i did. From the very first day I went in, they have been so accommodating with arranging counselling sessions. I feel very comfortable in the surroundings and being able to express how I am feeling not just in relation to the cancer but in other facets of life i am finding difficult. I don’t think my counsellor Anne realises how much she has helped me over the last number of months, I have found it so much easier to talk to people and she has taught me to be kind to myself. The service is not just open to those affected but also family members impacted by cancer. I can’t express enough my gratitude for this service and So this year, I’m running the Irish Life Dublin Marathon 2026 — for something bigger than myself. Every mile I run is a reminder of why I’m doing this — to make a real difference for those who need it most. Every mile matters. Every gesture helps. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart x
