Tiernan Bassett fundraising for Epilepsy Ireland in Cork City Marathon 2025

Hi, I’m Tiernan from Tullamore and I’m in my third year of college. The 1st of June 2025, the day of the cork city half marathon, marks the 20th anniversary of my mams passing. She passed away from SUDEP (Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy). I’m running in memory of my mam, to spread awareness of SUDEP, and raise some money for Epilepsy Ireland. I’ve seen how SUDEP can devastate families. In my twenties now it is even more shocking to me to think that my mam was only 24 years old when she passed away from SUDEP. Sadly, my family aren’t the only one to be devastated by SUDEP. Around 33 people die from SUDEP every year in Ireland. There is lots of research still to be done into SUDEP, and Epilepsy Ireland are helping invest in this research. For more information about SUDEP go to https://www.epilepsy.ie/content/sudep Any donations or shares are much appreciated

About Cork City Marathon 2025

Organised by Cork City Council, the marathon has three distances: the Full Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10K race. The routes weave through Cork City’s scenic and vibrant streets and suburbs, past iconic landmarks and along the bustling quays. The incredible support from Corkonians lining the streets, paired with the camaraderie among participants, guarantees a memorable day for all.

The Cork City Marathon is open to all, from elite athletes chasing records to first-time runners tackling personal goals. It's more than a race—it’s about community, resilience, and making a difference.

Building on the €200,000 raised for 58 charity partners in 2024, we aim to double this target in the coming years. With our new tagline ‘Your Race, Their Hope.’ We encourage participants to run for causes close to their hearts, making every stride on June 1 count towards vital, life-changing work.

As a full member of AIMs the Cork marathon is IAAF certified.
