Last year, I took on the Dublin Marathon simply as a personal challenge. I was delighted to be given a fundraising entry by Cancer Care West, and thanks to the incredible generosity of friends, family, and supporters, we raised over €1,700 for their vital work. When the months of training had ended and I crossed the finish line, I thought I understood how important this charity was. Little did we know how close to home their work would soon become. This year, our world changed when my wife was diagnosed with cancer at 33 years old. On the day of her diagnosis, the very first support system recommended to us by the medical team was Cancer Care West. Life has a strange way of coming full circle, the same organisation we ran to support last year is now standing beside us during our toughest battle. This year, I am lacing up the runners again for Dublin. But this time, it isn't about personal goals or finish times. This year, every single step is for our family. Every mile is for everyone fighting cancer. And every euro raised is for Cancer Care West. We are determined to raise as much as possible for this one-of-a-kind organisation that provides light, care, and practical support to families like ours when they need it most.
