Hi there, my name is Rebecca and I’m running the Irish Life Dublin Marathon in aid of LauraLynn- Ireland’s Children’s Hospice! I had the opportunity to spend my 4th year Occupational Therapy placement with the LauraLynn children, their families, and the whole team in the Hospice. I witnessed the many Quality of Life making activities and constant care that the Staff and volunteers provide to ensure that each and every family knows that they are supported. From Music and Occupational Therapy to Bereavement Support, I observed the services that they provide in LauraLynn to be invaluable. The children and their families are the reason why I am running this marathon. The unbelievable strength it takes to survive every day undergoing complex medical treatments and living with extreme functional challenges is what drives me to support them in any way I can. The team and facilities available in the LauraLynn House and home visits services enable the children to engage in activities that they may never have thought were possible. I have witnessed so many experiences in LauraLynn that have shown me that generosity and community can bring light to the darkest days. From the Light Up Christmas Event to a simple sensory story with the children, the staff in LauraLynn are always looking for ways to bring joy and comfort into the lives of the LauraLynn children and their families ☀️🏠
