Liam Kidney fundraising for Brighter Communities Worldwide in Irish Life Dublin Marathon 2026
In April 2025, after a long break from running, I started again from scratch with a Couch to 5K programme. At the time, running 5km felt like a big achievement and the idea of running another marathon seemed a very long way away. I completed the Dublin Marathon 32 years ago and the London Marathon in 1995, but I haven’t run a marathon since. For years I’ve wanted to complete a third, and 31 years after London, I’m finally getting the chance. Last September I completed my first 10km race. In March this year I ran my first half marathon in Mullingar, followed by Limerick where I broke two hours. More recently, I ran the Athlone Half Marathon, taking over two minutes off my PB, before completing 32km in Longwood as my final big training run for Dublin. On 24 October, I’ll line up for the Dublin Marathon. It has been a huge learning experience over the past 18 months to get back to this point. I’m running for Brighter Communities Worldwide, a charity with a very personal connection to my family. My sister Maria was involved in setting it up following a trip to Kenya in 2002. Since 2007, I have travelled to Kenya with Brighter Communities Worldwide five times, photographing their projects and seeing first-hand the difference their work makes in areas including healthcare, clean water, sanitation, education and sustainable livelihoods. I’m very proud to be running my third marathon for a charity that means so much to me and my family. Any donation, big or small, would be hugely appreciated. Thank you for your support.
