Gavin Gaffney fundraising for Cliona's Foundation with St Marys Newport

This is my funding page for Cliona’s foundation. Over the next few months I have been tasked with raising at least €1000 for Cliona’s Foundation. The money will go to the aid of families with seriously ill children, to help with extra things likes paying bills or buying the weekly food for everyone. This can be very impactful to these families and each donation will go a long way. In April 2026, I will be walking 100km of the Camino to help fundraise for Cliona’s. Each day I will walk around 20km through the streets of Spain, where I will be given the opportunity to explore parts of Spain, see the local culture and go to the shops. This will be a great experience as it will help my physically and morally.

About Cliona's Foundation

Cliona's Foundation provides nationwide financial assistance to families of seriously sick children to help with the non medical costs of caring for their child while in hospital or at home These costs include but are not limited to accommodation, travel, car parking, food, childcare, specialist equipment & much more and can amount to an additional €15,000 a year For many of these families one of the parents has to give up work to care for their child reducing the household income & placing significant financial pressure on them. Cliona’s believe that no family should have to face any added financial stress, when already struggling with the devastation and trauma of a seriously ill child. Cliona’s relies 100% on income raised through a range of activities including events & fundraising, corporate donations, philanthropy & private donations and charity partnerships & have supported over 1,768 families over the past 17 years - 187 in 2025. Thank you for your support

About Camino for Clionas 2026 08th - 13th April

Across five trips in April, & June 2026 over 200 students & their teachers will walk from Portomarin to Santiago , a route of 100 kms over 4 days . It is an amazing experience for everyone
The students will be from schools all across the Country and will be walking in solidarity with families on their own challenging journey as they deal with the emotional & financial pressure of caring for a seriously sick child.

Each of the students have to raise a minimum of €1,000 , 100% of which goes directly to Cliona's , with the cost of travel & accommodation being borne by themselves.

Apart from the serious efforts put into fundraising and the challenge of the walk, all of these students are amazing ambassadors for Cliona's, their families & their schools.
It has been an absolute privilege for Cliona's to have had the company of these amazing young people on our trips in over the past three years
Please support their efforts in anyway you can.
