David Skelly fundraising for Irish Cancer Society in Irish Life Dublin Marathon 2025

I am running the Dublin Marathon to raise money for the Irish Cancer Society! In 2018 I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Hodgkins Lymphoma and thankfully went into remission in July 2019. Anyone who knew me during my treatment would always say that I was extremely mentally strong through it all, but the truth is, that is what I wanted everyone to think. The psychological impact the experience had on me was pretty heavy and I never really opened up about it before now. Keeping this all bottled up over the years did me no good and led me to developing severe anxiety issues. Thankfully I’m in a much better place now and running has helped me a lot in recent times. I want to encourage anyone going through a similar experience to speak about it, whether it be to friends/family/support groups etc and not to make the same mistakes I did! Any donations would be greatly appreciated! Clear Eyes, Full Hearts.

About Irish Cancer Society

Cancer is the most common cause of death in Ireland with more than 9,000 people dying each year. That's almost 25 people dying from cancer every day across Ireland. An average of 1 person every hour. However, thanks to earlier detection, improved care and targeted treatments, more people are surviving cancer than ever before. Today, there are 200,000 cancer survivors in Ireland. The Irish Cancer Society are working towards a future where nobody dies from cancer, and everyone affected by the disease will have access to world class treatment and support. Typically receiving only 5% of income from the Government, your support helps provide key services to ensure no one has to face cancer alone and funds vital cancer research with over €30 million invested since 2010.
