David Sammon fundraising for Special Olympics Ireland in Irish Life Dublin Marathon 2026
I am running the Irish Life Dublin Marathon for Special Olympics Ireland, and this marathon means more to me than I ever imagined. I'll be running 42km in memory of my father, Martin, who sadly passed away recently, and in support of my brother Sean and all the incredible athletes involved with Special Olympics Ireland. Special Olympics has been a huge part of our family for many years. Dad had a very special connection with the organisation and gave so much of his time to it. Together with my mother, Beatrice, he helped set up the first Special Olympics kayaking club, and He was also very involved with table tennis. Through Dad, Mum and Sean, I've seen just how much the Special Olympics can mean to an athlete and their family - the friendships, opportunities, confidence, achievements and memories that come from being part of something so special. When I first signed up for this marathon, I wanted to raise money and give back to the organisation that has brought so much joy to our family. However, after losing my father, the marathon has taken on a much deeper meaning. On the 25th October, when things get tough during the run, I'll remember why I'm out there. I'll be thinking about Sean, all the athletes, and most of all, Dad. I've already been overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity people have shown, and I'm incredibly grateful to everyone who has donated and helped me reach my fundraising target. If you would like to support me, every donation, no matter the amount, will go towards helping Special Olympics Ireland continue its incredible work. And if you can't donate, simply sharing my page would mean just as much. Every mile will have a meaning. Every step will be for something bigger. This one is for you Dad ❤️
