Damien McCabe fundraising for Diabetes Ireland in Irish Life Dublin Marathon 2026
This year, I’m running the Irish Life Dublin Marathon 2026 in support of Diabetes Ireland. Before 2026 I've rarely ever ran more than 5k so this will be a serious challenge starting with a half marathon that I completed on May 17th and a 20 week training programme building up to the marathon on October 25th. My son Dylan was was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 2024 when he was aged 9. Until then I always had a complete misunderstanding of how treatment and diet is managed for anyone with Diabetes. We're really lucky that there is so much available to Dylan in relation to technology, such as apps for tracking blood sugar levels, and information for managing his insulin intake. He has always handled his diagnosis so well, and just gets on with his active lifestyle like all 12 year olds. I'm hoping that pushing myself through a marathon to raise funds will only further improve how Diabetes is treated in the future because I think if this was 25 years ago it would be very different in how we would manage. Every mile I run is a reminder of why I’m doing this — to make a real difference for those who need it most. It’s not just about crossing a finish line; it’s about showing up, pushing through, and turning effort into impact. Your support — whether it’s a donation, a share, or simply cheering me on — means more than words can say. Together, we can take every step a little further. Every mile matters. Every gesture helps. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
