COUCH TO MARATHON CHALLANGE!!! At 40 years old, I decided it was time to tick something off my bucket list... although, looking back, I probably should have picked something easier! So this October, I'll be attempting the Dublin Marathon to raise money for Newry Hospice (Evora). The only problem was... I'd never been a runner. In fact, when I signed up, I genuinely thought the Dublin Marathon was only 10K. It wasn't until afterwards I discovered it was actually 42.2K lol! By then I'd already told everyone I was doing it, so there was no backing out. Since then, it's been a journey of early mornings, sore legs, long runs and discovering that running is a lot harder than it looks. My watch congratulates me after every run. Judging by how I feel afterwards, I think it's just relieved I've made it home! I'm taking on this challenge because Newry Hospice (Evora) provides incredible care and support to local individuals and families. They do amazing work, and I wanted to do something to help give back. Going from the couch to a marathon has been one of the toughest things I've ever done, but every step is worth it if it helps raise money for such a fantastic charity. If you're able to support me, I'd really appreciate it. Every donation, no matter how big or small, will make a real difference. If you can't donate, sharing this post would mean just as much. Please donate using the link below and help me support the incredible work of Newry Hospice. Thank you to everyone who has encouraged me along the way. Roll on Dublin... ...and if I make it to the finish line, I think I'll have earned that first Guinness!

About Evora Hospice Care (formerly Southern Area Hospice)

Southern Area Hospice Services care for patients and their families living primarily in the Southern Trust area, offering specialist palliative and end of life care. The main aim of the hospice is to help patients who have received a palliative diagnosis live well with their condition. We strive to support patients to achieve the best possible quality of life from first receiving a palliative diagnosis, until the end of life, whenever that may be. We also offer ongoing support to patients’ families and carers. All our services are provided free of charge and we rely heavily on voluntary donations. This year Southern Area Hospice Services (we) need to raise £3.6 million to enable us to continue to provide vital specialist palliative care services. This is approximately 68% of our total required income, the remainder being funded through government support. We need to raise these funds to enable us to continue to provide care and support to our patients and their families.
