Bronagh O’Loughlin fundraising for Diabetes Ireland in Irish Life Dublin Marathon 2026
🏃♀️💙 WHY ON EARTH AM I RUNNING A MARATHON? 💙🏃♀️ In October 2026, I’ll be taking on the Irish Life Dublin City Marathon in aid of Diabetes Ireland. Now, anyone who knows me well will know that I’m not exactly a natural runner. In fact, if you’d asked me a few years ago if I’d ever voluntarily run 42.2km, I’d have laughed in your face and told you that you were completely delusional. Now it appears I’m the delusional one! 😅 But 2026 marks a significant milestone for me — 30 years living with Type 1 Diabetes. I was diagnosed during the week of my 18th birthday. While most teenagers are thinking about celebrations, freedom and what comes next, I was learning about blood sugars, insulin injections and a condition that would become part of my life every single day. For 30 years, Type 1 Diabetes has come along on every holiday, every night out, every stressful day, every achievement and every challenge. There are no days off. No holidays from it. It requires constant attention, planning and resilience. So I wanted to do something that acknowledges those 30 years. Something that would challenge me, push me well outside my comfort zone and, hopefully, make a difference. That’s why I’m running the Dublin City Marathon for Diabetes Ireland. While I’m reflecting on my own journey, I’m especially thinking about the parents of children diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. The fear, the sleepless nights, the endless learning curve, the carb counting, the worry and the responsibility that arrives overnight. Diabetes Ireland provides vital support, education and advocacy for families navigating that journey. Every donation, no matter how small, will help Diabetes Ireland continue that important work. If you’d like to support me (and help make all those training runs feel worthwhile!), I’d be hugely grateful.
