On 23rd August 2024, my colleague and dear friend, Stephen O’Callaghan, tragically lost his life while heroically rescuing four young people in distress at Inch Beach, East Cork. Stephen’s selfless act embodies the spirit of courage and generosity that defines the lifeboat service of Ireland. In his memory, I am undertaking a marathon to raise funds for this vital organization, ensuring they can continue their lifesaving work along our coasts. Your support will honour Stephen’s legacy and contribute to the safety of countless others. Thank you for your generosity.

About Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI)

Our volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour rescue service in Ireland and the UK. RNLI crews and lifeguards have saved over 142,700 lives since 1824 but we’re more than just a rescue service. We influence, supervise and educate people too. Our Community Safety teams explain the risks and share safety knowledge with anyone going out to sea or to the coast. And our international teams work with like-minded organisations to help tackle drowning in communities at risk all around the world

About Cork City Marathon 2025

Organised by Cork City Council, the marathon has three distances: the Full Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10K race. The routes weave through Cork City’s scenic and vibrant streets and suburbs, past iconic landmarks and along the bustling quays. The incredible support from Corkonians lining the streets, paired with the camaraderie among participants, guarantees a memorable day for all.

The Cork City Marathon is open to all, from elite athletes chasing records to first-time runners tackling personal goals. It's more than a race—it’s about community, resilience, and making a difference.

Building on the €200,000 raised for 58 charity partners in 2024, we aim to double this target in the coming years. With our new tagline ‘Your Race, Their Hope.’ We encourage participants to run for causes close to their hearts, making every stride on June 1 count towards vital, life-changing work.

As a full member of AIMs the Cork marathon is IAAF certified.
