Aisling and Emer Wood fundraising for Our Ladys Hospice Harold's Cross Blackrock and Wicklow
This one is for our Dad, aka Julian, Chris, JC, Pops, Papa, Popsy. This year, we, Aisling and Emer, will be running in Dublin Marathon on behalf of Our Lady’s Hospice, who have hospices based in Wicklow, Blackrock and Harold’s Cross. Our father Julian (Chris) Wood was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer in December 2024. He was taken into Wicklow Hospice for end of life care in January 2026, where he was able to spend the remainder of his weeks in a beautiful, nurturing environment, surrounded by amazingly compassionate staff, doctors and volunteers. As a family, we cannot thank or credit enough what the hospice did for our dad and the unwavering support they provided not only dad, but also us. And how they took the time to truly understand Dad and respect his autonomy and choice. After a brave and courageous battle, dad passed away on 24th February 2026, surrounded by the people who loved him the most. We would love nothing more than to raise money for Wicklow Hospice and the partner Hospices, so they can continue to provide other families with the same opportunities, resources and support we were lucky enough to have. So, in their honour (and Dad’s and behalf of our siblings) we’ve signed up for the Dublin Marathon. A full 26.2 miles feels… very daunting, but it feels nothing compared to what the hospice gave us. Every mile will be for Dad — and for the incredible staff who ensure other families can experience the same dignity, peace and compassion when it matters most. If you’re able to donate, you’ll be supporting truly extraordinary care. Thank you so much for your support, it genuinely means the world to us and Dad’s lasting legacy.
