Ailín Rogers fundraising for The Mater Hospital Foundation in Irish Life Dublin Marathon 2026
Running together has a bit of history for my brother Oisín and I. When I was completing my fellowship in advanced colorectal and robotic cancer surgery at the Royal Marsden in London, we started running together and trained for the London marathon in 2021. Five years later we are taking on Dublin - this time to raise funds for colorectal cancer care at the Mater Hospital. The surgery we can offer patients with colorectal cancer has changed enormously in recent years. Robotic surgery allows us to operate with exceptional precision in areas of the body where space is limited and with great patient outcomes. I trained to do this at the Marsden. A robotic surgical system costs €1.5-2 million, and we really need to purchase one in the Mater to expand access to robotic surgery for our patients. All of the money Oisín and I raise will be ring-fenced for the Mater colorectal patients - with a new robot being the forefront of our ambitions. Whether you give €20, €200 or €2000, every contribution will make a dent in bringing the next generation of surgical care to patients. Thank you for supporting the Mater Hospital, and the patients and families that we have the privilege of looking after.
