Aideen O'Connor fundraising for The Mater Hospital Foundation
This year, I will be running the Irish Life Dublin Marathon 2026, my 10th marathon — for something bigger than myself. I ran my first marathon in 2006 and raised money for Motor Neurons in memory of my wonderful cousin Rodney Little who had sadly passed away from it. This year first and foremost, I am running in memory of my godmother and Aunty , Carol Englishby who sadly passed away in November. In her last few weeks Carol was cared for by the Mater Hospital and I want to give back to them for caring for Carol and her family at such a heartbreaking time. My Aunty watched me race many a marathon & I know I will use her infectious spirit and laugh to get me around the course. I will also run for all family members who are no longer with us. I want to teach my two sons Rían & Chulainn that it is important to give back when you can , but also to show them that anything is possible when you put your mind to it, not easy but possible. I want to thank my partner Gareth for all his love & support , encouragement in helping me to achieve my 10th marathon, my 2 beautiful boys ,my amazing family , extended family and a special mention to Shane Rooney who has mapped all my long runs and has ran with me ( even tough he is not doing the marathon!) & to my amazing coaches and clubmates at Clonliffe Harriers. Your support — whether it’s a donation, a share, or simply cheering me on — means more than words can say. Together, we can take every step a little further. Every mile matters. Every gesture helps. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Nil Desperandum Aideen xxx
