I'm running the Belfast City Marathon with my brother, Samuel, in honor and memory of our mum, Pauline, who sadly lost her battle to colon cancer in September 2025. My mum was the most beautiful, thoughtful, loving person you'd ever meet. Being a mother of 5, she absolutely adored her family, keeping everyone together even when we've all grown up and moved out. My parents would spend their time travelling round Europe, exploring on bikes, cruises and their motorhome, experiencing life together. My mum was my anchor, my voice of reason, my go to call whatever I was doing and wherever I was going. It didn't matter what was going on in life, I knew that my mum was there for me. Home is where you are mum. I will miss our long chats and laughs. I will miss everything, always. My mum's diagnosis was very late, with it being only 3 weeks from the day of diagnosis to the day she passed. She was taken far too quickly and too soon, and so this run is for her and for every person who has been affected by cancer in any capacity. The cruelty of cancer is unforgiving, but if there is anything that can come of this, I hope it to be help in early diagnosis, treatment and care so others do not suffer how my mum did.
