Aedín Dunne fundraising for Irish Cancer Society
This October I’m running the Irish Life Dublin Marathon 2026 to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society in honour of two very important people to me. My fantastic uncle and one of my most fabulous friends, Katie have been living with their diagnosis over the last while. They are two people who have shown me what real strength, courage and positivity looks like and who continue to do so everyday. More than 44,000 people are diagnosed with cancer in Ireland every year. Everyone knows someone who is or has been affected by cancer and every donation goes to the Irish Cancer Society to help fund ongoing and future research. Every kilometer of the 42.2kms I run is a reminder of why I’m doing this — to make a real difference for those who need it most. I will be running every step for my two motivators but I will also be running with the names of many important people on my arm who I will remember, celebrate and honour during the race. Every step, wall I hit and tough parts will be nothing compared to what thousands of people go through on a daily basis. Whether it’s a donation, a share, or simply cheering me on from a far or in Dublin on race day, every little helps. Every donation is hugely appreciated and will go a long way to help the fight for our parents, uncles, aunts, cousins, friends, neighbours and ourselves. There has to be answers, there has to be cures coming. We won't know without research and that research needs funding. This is bigger than any of us but coming together in honour of those who have fought the fight, those who fell short of ringing the bell, those who rang the bell, those who need answers, those who have feared, those who have suffered, those we have lost. This is for all of us. Please donate if you can 💛
