Akira Cox fundraising for Recovery Haven Kerry in Irish Life Dublin Marathon 2026
I have decided to run the Dublin Marathon this year, for a cause that sits close to my heart. My grandpa, George Alfred Cox, was a phenomenal man who had a knack for running. He was truly amazing. For 14 years of his life, he ran what is known as the comrades marathon, which is a 89km marathon that brings people in South Africa and all over the world together. He passed away on the 2nd of January 2017 from stage 4 colon cancer which eventually spread everywhere, including his lungs. When he passed away, it was incredibly difficult on the family, for those who knew him and for those who did not have the chance to get to know him as well as we would have liked. Running this marathon for Recovery Haven is a great opportunity to raise awareness and funds to support cancer patients and their families. I am running in support of this cause to remember the man that we lost too soon due to cancer. The Dublin Marathon is a stepping stone to running the Comrades with my grandpas green number and following in his footsteps. Every kilometer run will be in support of this cause and in memory of my grandpa. Your support — whether it’s a donation, a share, or simply cheering me on — means more than words can say. Together, we can take every step a little further. Every mile matters. Every gesture helps. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
