AFESOL (Association of Relatives and People with Mental Illness of the Costa del Sol), based in Benalmádena, is a non-profit organization founded in 1999 by relatives and individuals with lived experience of mental illness, united to seek solutions to the challenges arising from mental health conditions. The organization operates throughout the province of Málaga, particularly in the western Costa del Sol area. The organization’s general purpose is to promote the improvement of the quality of life of people with mental health problems, based on the recovery-oriented approach; to advocate for improvements in mental health care within the province of Málaga; to support relatives and individuals with mental illness in their interactions with public authorities; and to promote social awareness and the fight against stigma.
