Story

This unique charity event tests personal endurance, builds strong bonds, and takes place against the stunning backdrop of the Dingle Peninsula. Named in honour of Antarctic explorer Tom Crean from Annascaul, it reflects his spirit of resilience, teamwork, and community.
Founded in 2017 by Kieran O’Callaghan, Patrick O’Sullivan, and Daniel Bohan, the event is a non-competitive 24-hour multi-discipline challenge focused on camaraderie and support. It has grown into a highly anticipated annual event, featuring up to 10 teams (30–40 participants) raising vital funds for Kerry charities. Past participants include Uniquely, The Bookshelf, Xintec, Tralee Aquadome, Cybersafe Kids and Kostal, with Zurich, New Ireland and Beam expressing interest this year.
This year’s challenge takes place on 21st–22nd August. Starting at 7pm at the Aquadome in Tralee, teams will complete a 151km (95-mile) route around the Dingle Peninsula over 24 hours. The journey includes cycling, walking, hiking, kayaking, climbing and swimming, with highlights such as Mount Brandon, Slea Head, Mount Eagle, Ventry Harbour and the Greenway.
Funds raised will support Kerry Cancer Support Group, Kerry Hospice, Down Syndrome Kerry, Recovery Haven, Jack and Jill Foundation (Kerry) and other local charities, providing vital services including transport, family support and cancer care.
Since 2017, the challenge has raised €330,000, helping these organisations continue their invaluable work in the Kerry community.
