WESTPORTIF 2025: THE RIDE OF A LIFETIME Are you ready for one of Ireland’s most breathtaking cycling adventures? Circle May 17th, 2025 on your calendar and get training because this year’s Westportif promises to be an unforgettable journey through some of the most jaw-dropping landscapes Mayo has to offer.

Mayo is already known for its stunning scenery, but this year, we’re taking you off the beaten path to explore a hidden treasure. The 75km route is an incredible journey that will take you through the serene lakelands, into the untamed beauty of Wild Nephin National Park, and back through the charming town of Newport, at the heart of the Great Western Greenway.

The adventure kicks off at the historic Westport House Estate. Pedal northwards to the iconic Seven Arch Bridge in Newport, then immerse yourself in the magical Lakeland views as the pristine waters of Lough Furnace and Lough Feeagh shimmer under the sun. Soon, you’ll find yourself riding through the peaceful Letterkeen Forest, only to emerge into the untouched wilderness of Wild Nephin National Park. This is one of Ireland’s last unspoiled reserves and is home to Ireland’s Dark Sky Park, winner of the International Dark Sky Place of the Year 2024. You have a food stop at Keenagh at 38km. This is also the highest point of the route at 200m. A kilometre further on you turn south towards Glenhest and back through Newport and home to Westport.

The 150km route is for those who crave an even bigger challenge. Sharing the same start as the 75km route, the longer journey pushes further north after Keenagh, offering jaw-dropping views of the Nephin mountain range as you cross the rugged Barony of Erris. You’ll ride through some of the most remote, untouched landscapes in the world—vast, empty, and absolutely awe-inspiring.

At 94km, a well-earned food stop in Mulranny gives you a chance to refuel for what comes next: the legendary Currane Loop, a dazzling ride along the Atlantic Coast that might just be the highlight of your entire year. The endless ocean views, the crisp sea air, and the sense of adventure—this section alone is worth every turn of the pedals. Finally, turn westward back to Newport and onward to the warm welcome of Westport, where a celebratory pint or a luxurious hot bath awaits.
