CUILCAGH CAMINO 2026

Join us on Saturday 8th August 2026 for the Cuilcagh Camino.

This is a self-guided Camino. However, respective route maps will be provided, and appropriate directional signage will be installed along the route with additional stewards at appropriate locations.

Three routes on offer:

Long approx 30km

Medium approx 25km

Short approx 16km

Please Note:

Registration takes place in St Marys Hall Swanlinbar for:

LONG ROUTE between 7.00 - 8.00 AM

MEDIUM ROUTE between 8:00 - 8:30 AM

SHORT ROUTE between 8.30 - 9.30AM

All three routes start and finish a St Mary's Hall, Swanlinbar 

All routes will provide access to lesser-known areas of the stunning east Cuilcagh landscape.

The long route traverses the foothills of Benbeg and the lower plateau of Cuilcagh mountain.

The medium route does likewise except for Benbeg. Both of these routes offer unique opportunities to witness several archaeological sites, most of which have been recently discovered or re-interpreted.

The short route will take you along the beautiful foothills of Cuilcagh mountain offering breath-taking scenery.

Neither route links into the Stairway to Heaven.

All routes will include some tarred byroads, gravel tracks, open boggy hillside/mountain, and grassy trails.

All routes involve in part open mountain ground where the weather can change quickly and the ground can be uneven and slippery in places so proper hiking boots, rain gear and water are compulsory. Spare layers, snacks and sweets are strongly advisable

Refreshments and toilet stations will be provided at appropriate intervals.

Fee €60 (excl. booking fee) includes, respective route map, refreshments, hot food at the finish and a commemorative Cuilcagh Camino T-shirt. 

The Cuilcagh Camino is being organised by members of Cuilcagh Ramblers and other local volunteers with proceeds of the event being donated to local causes/charities.

Participants must have a good level of fitness and have previously hiked over a long distance comfortably.
