Ready to Go Orienteering 2026

Meath LSP are delighted to collaborate with Orienteering Ireland to bring a two part Orienteering Programme specifically designed for primary and secondary schools.

Part 1: Ready to Go Orienteering (RTGO) is a practical one-day training programme designed for both primary and secondary school teachers. The course provides participants with the knowledge, skills and resources required to introduce orienteering within their school setting in a fun, inclusive and engaging way. Throughout the workshop, teachers will develop an understanding of the fundamental principles of orienteering, including map reading, route choice, navigation and orientation skills. Participants will also learn how to plan and deliver age-appropriate orienteering activities and courses for their students. No previous experience of orienteering is required.

Part 2: Park-O Schools Event: This event allows teachers and students to put their Ready to Go Orienteering training into practice in a real outdoor environment. Schools will be allocated a designated timeslot and students will complete an orienteering course throughout Blackwater Park, navigating between a series of checkpoints using a map. The event promotes problem-solving, teamwork, physical activity and confidence while providing a fun and practical learning experience outside the classroom. It also serves as an excellent progression opportunity for schools wishing to further develop orienteering as part of their PE and outdoor education programmes.
