Alan Towell Memorial

Banbridge CC is delighted to announce the return of the Alan Towell Memorial, taking place on Sunday 19th April over the scenic Co Down roads around Dromore. For 2026, riders and spectators alike can look forward to notable changes: a compact, traditional route and an exciting new finish.

Circuit Details

This year sees a shift back to a shorter, more classic circuit compared to recent years, offering a different tactical challenge. The route now avoids the longer, rolling loops of neighbouring villages, instead focusing on the well-known climbs of Ballykeel Hill, Drumlough, and the demanding Edentrillick drag. The new finish on the Dromore Rd follows a thrilling 2.5km descent from Drumlough, providing a dramatic conclusion.

Event History & Memorial Trophies

The Alan Towel Memorial Cup itself, introduced to the event  in 2023 has a very short but lucrative list of winners;  in 2024 International sensation Seth Dunwoody was the victor, and in 2025 Daire Feely, probably Ireland’s most consistent domestic road racer of the last decade added his name.

Alan Towell was a cornerstone of Banbridge CC, joining in 1973 and leaving a lasting legacy through both racing and volunteering. Honouring Alan with this event is a heartfelt tribute to his contribution to the club and Irish cycling. The day also celebrates junior talent with the Sean McGreevy Memorial Trophy, lovingly refurbished to mark its 50th anniversary. Over five decades, this trophy has recognised some of the best young riders in the country.

Race Categories & Distances

• C1 Race: 8 laps, 132km (82.5 miles), including an extended run out
• C2 Race: 6 laps, 103km (64 miles)
• C3 Race: 4 laps, 73.5km (46 miles)

Registration

Entry is strictly by pre-registration through Cycling Ireland’s Event Master portal. Registration opens on Tuesday, 07/04/2026 and closes at 20:00 on Friday, 17/04/2026.
