Takes place in Connacht, over two separate weekends. Sat 16 and Saturday 23 November.
The two-day (split over two weekends) Level 3 River Kayak Skills Training (L3RKST) course is aimed specifically at those who have successfully completed Level 2 Skills Training and who are interested in progressing their whitewater paddling skills.
Course content
The course is an intense two days which aims to cover all skills required on for this award . It aims to give the paddler an understanding of moving water and how different strokes and techniques can be used to navigate the river safely.
Aim of the Training
To help level 2 skills kayakers progress to the next level of the sport and begin to explore moving water techniques on a higher grade of water. This course focuses on solidifying level 2 skills before building level 3 skills so students have a solid foundation for paddling more difficult moving water.
What course aims to cover
After a revision of fundamental strokes and moving water techniques students are introduced to moving water strokes and techniques such as the Bow Rudder, Stern Rudder , High Brace , Sculling and Hanging Draw. This is normally done on flat water before heading onto moving water to work on practicing and fine tuning moving water techniques such as Breaking in & Breaking out of a flow , ferry-gliding across moving water , concentrating on entering and exiting eddies . Students are introduced to wave and hole surfing, and working on teaching or improving the Eskimo roll and applying it to moving water situations.

Fee: €150
Courses are refundable up to 48 prior to the course taking place, unless the course is cancelled due to poor weather conditions in which case we will offer to postpone or refund.
