Zach Parkinson fundraising for Brain Tumour Ireland in Corkagh Park 5 Mile 2026
I'm Zach and I'm running 5 miles for Brain Tumour Ireland! I am not much of a runner but I figured it was worth it for a good cause. I am raising money for Brain Tumour Ireland because of the effect brain Tumours have indirectly had on my life. When I was only a few months old my mum was diagnosed with a brain tumour which required invasive surgery to keep under control. Fortunately after a long period of recovery, she was able to resume normal life. Flash forward to 2020, about 2 months into the the COVID 19 pandemic she suffered a stroke. After initially thinking she was making a quick recovery, by November of 2020 we had confirmation the tumour had returned. After what seemed like an absolute age of waiting, we discover in January 2021 that the tumour is on the brain stem, meaning any treatment was impossible. She passed away on the 25th of April 2021, 2 weeks before my 27th birthday. I was very lucky to have 26 years with my mum, but I will never forget what the brain tumour did to her. Brain tumours were always in the background when I was growing up and there was always a fear of reoccurring. I simply want to help spread awareness and hopefully bring some money to supporting brain tumour patients and their families. Donate if you can 🙏
