Tony Whitmore fundraising for World Vision Ireland

I had the privilege of spending several days on volunteer leave, at my own expense, in the Solomon Islands with World Vision Ireland. Having supported the charity for a number of years, it was both humbling and inspiring to see first-hand the life-changing work being carried out in local communities. I witnessed the early stages of this programme. Spending time with local families gave me a much deeper understanding of both the challenges they face and the resilience, hope, and determination that exists within the community. Despite difficult circumstances, progress is already being made. Through World Vision's support, children are gaining access to education, families are improving their livelihoods, communities are strengthening access to clean water, and opportunities are being created for a brighter future. One of the most memorable parts of my visit was meeting several sponsored children and their families. The impact of World Vision's work was evident not only in the improvements being made within the community, but also in the hope and optimism I saw in the children I met. However, the level of need particularly in the Lord Howe Community is extremely high. During my visit, it was striking to see the extent of poverty, with many families facing significant daily challenges and children often playing in areas surrounded by rubbish. The experience reinforced just how important continued support is for this community and the opportunities it can create. I am raising funds to support World Vision Ireland's work in the Lord Howe Community. Every donation, no matter the size, will help create opportunities for children and families to build a healthier, more secure future. Thank you for your support. It is truly appreciated. If you are able to help spread the word, I would be grateful if you could share this page with your friends, family, colleagues, and social networks using the sharing options below. Thank you again for your generosity and support.

About Support Children in the Solomon Islands

Every child deserves clean, safe water — at home, at school, and in their community.

Together, we can help end the global water crisis within our lifetime.

In Solomon Islands, many children attend school without access to reliable water, safe toilets or handwashing facilities. This puts their health at risk and disrupts their learning every day. Girls are especially affected, often missing school during menstruation due to a lack of private, appropriate sanitation.

World Vision Ireland focuses on improving water, sanitation and hygiene in primary schools across our programme area in the Solomon Islands.

When schools have clean water and proper sanitation, children get sick less often, attendance improves, and teachers are better supported to stay and teach. The impact reaches far beyond the classroom, helping families and communities build healthier futures.

Give today to help children stay healthy, stay in school, and keep moving forward on the path out of poverty.
