About Telefonseelsorge Berlin e.V.
Telefonseelsorge Berlin e.V. was founded in 1956 as the first telephone counselling service in Germany. Inspired by the Samaritans, it was set up to address the high suicide rate in West-Berlin in the 1950s. Telefonseelsorge’ s mission is still to prevent suicide and to support mental health, but the remit has widened considerably.
Our volunteers provide emotional support on the telephone 24/7. In addition, in 2016 we set up a counselling service for those bereaved by Suicide or living with a suicidal person. Here we provide free counselling sessions as well as moderated groups. We also run ant-stigma campaigns and organise or participate in public events about the topic.
About Darkness Into Light with Telefonseelsorge Berlin e.V.
Darkness Into Light 2026 is a global 5km walk, which will take place around 4:15 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2026. Walking from the darkness into the light i.e. sunrise which is different times in different locations. This inspiring event symbolizes hope, as communities come together to support mental health and prevent suicide.
There are many ways to get involved. Join an official Darkness Into Light walk or create your own DIL fundraiser—whether it’s a bake sale, a car wash, a sponsored silence, a run, or a swim. Rally your family, friends, and colleagues in your local area to make a difference.

Darkness Into Light (DIL) 2026 ist eine internationale
Veranstaltung, die weltweit am 9.5.2026 stattfindet. Der symbolische
Spaziergang startet in Berlin auf dem Tempelhofer Feld um 4:15. Gemeinsam gehen
wir 5 Kilometer vom Dunkel der Nacht in das Licht des Tages. Darkness Into
Light steht weltweit für Gemeinschaft, Hoffnung und das Engagement für
Suizidprävention – auch in Berlin, wo all Einnahmen an Telefonseelsorge Berlin
e.V. gehen. Pieta Ireland erhält eine Gebühr für die Nutzung der Marke „Darkness
Into Light“ sowie zur Unterstützung der kostenlosen lebensrettenden Angebote
von Pieta.
Sie können sich auf unterschiedliche Arten engagieren.
Nehmen Sie an dem offiziellen Darkness Into Light-Walk auf dem Tempelhofer Feld
in Berlin teil oder starten Sie eine eigene DIL-Spendenaktion, z.B. ein
Kuchenverkauf, eine Autowäsche oder ein Lauf. Mobilisieren Sie Familie, Freunde
und Kolleginnen und Kollegen in Ihrer Region, um etwas zu bewirken.
