Melissa Edman fundraising for Dublin Rape Crisis Centre in Analog Devices Cork City Marathon 2026
My mom passed away unexpectedly in March 2025. She was my best friend, my biggest supporter, and the person I went to for everything. Anyone who knew her would tell you how kind, funny, and caring she was. She was the strongest person I knew, carrying struggles that very few people ever saw, always hidden behind her warm and welcoming smile. After she passed away, I started taking running more seriously as a way to process my grief. Over time, I realised I wanted to turn that pain into something positive. That’s why I’m raising funds for the Irish Rape Crisis Centre in her honour. Every survivor deserves to be seen, heard, and supported. Access to the right help can make an enormous difference, giving people the chance to heal, rebuild their lives, and move forward without being defined by what happened to them. In Ireland, 52% of women have experienced some form of sexual violence in their lifetime, while 65% of women aged 18–24 report having experienced sexual violence. These figures show how urgently support services are needed. My mom was the type of person who in a short interaction could leave a lasting positive impact. She loved helping people and I know this cause would be close to her heart and I know she would be proud of me for raising money for a charity that supports people affected by sexual violence and helps survivors find hope and healing. Any donation, would mean so much. Thank you for your support.
