Lauren & Holly run Belfast! fundraising for PIPS Suicide Prevention Ireland Charity in Phoenix Energy Belfast City Marathon 2026
Holly & I are running the Belfast Marathon for the first time ever together on behalf of PIPs Suicide Prevention! It’s an incredible charity based locally in North Belfast which provides free support to those struggling with their mental health. The work they do is crucial locally and across the country. The overall prevalence of mental health problems in Northern Ireland is estimated to be 20% higher than in England or Scotland with 30% less funding. North Belfast specifically had the highest number of Troubles related deaths in Ireland and contained the highest number of interface communities which were the ongoing scene for sectarian threats and violence over many years. It’s an area where fear stalked the streets and life for young people was especially difficult and dangerous. Together, high levels of violence and deprivation have had a serious lasting impact on the mental health and wellbeing of people in the surrounding area. Lauren: Running has always been something I’ve loved and was a big part of my life growing up competing for my local club & school. As an adult, it has taken on a different purpose in my life and has helped me to manage and overcome very difficult patches with my own mental health. It seems only fitting to run our hometown marathon and raise funds for others who are struggling and allow them access to invaluable support. Anything you can give will be so appreciated and I promise to run my wee legs off! Holly: Working as a GP in Belfast, I see the impact mental health has on our community and am so grateful to PIPs for the work that it does supporting people and families. Anyone who knows us will know as a family we have had our share of mental health issues within the family, any support we receive we’ll be so grateful for! Running has always been something I’ve enjoyed, but committing to a marathon is a whole new challenge. Training alongside my job & life with small kids definitely tested my time management & legs!
