About Shannon's Hopeline

Shannon's Hopeline was set up in memory of Shannon Kelleher who died by suicide on the 24th January 2012, she was 13 years old. Shannon's mother Sandra Kelleher and aunty Lisa Kelleher set up the charity together. Shannon was a funny, caring, sensitive young girl. She had a great love for children, cinema and comedians. Shannon's dream was to become an artist and actress. Shannon had never mentioned suicide and Sandra or the family did not notice any signs, so it was a complete shock to everyone. Not only was Shannon's family affected by this but the whole community was deeply saddened and affected. Sandra had never heard of anyone so young take their own life so she began to research. She had no idea that youth suicide was so bad in Ireland and the lack of services available to young people. Sandra and Lisa decided something had to be done about this and this was when Shannon's Hopeline was born.
