Diandra Ní Bhuachalla fundraising for Marymount University Hospice in Cork City Marathon 2025

Dia daoibh! My name is Diandra and I'll be running in Cork City Marathon's 10k in aid of Marymount University Hospice. I'll be starting my training in February 2025, and it will be my first race ever (hopefully of many). I'll document some of my journey on Instagram if you would like to follow along: @diandramarie_ In January 2024, we lost a dear friend, John O'Brien. John was one of the kindest men I have ever known. He ignited a LOVE (more like obsession) for rugby in me, and was the closest figure that I have had to a Grandfather. In his final weeks, I saw the care, calm, and compassion created for John and his family by Marymount, and any feelings that I once had of it being a "scary" place were completely dispelled. Marymount University Hospital & Hospice (“Marymount”) provides specialist palliative care services and services to care for dependent older people. Its origins date back to 1870 with its foundation by the Religious Sisters of Charity in Cork. The original hospital was built on the north side of the city but the service relocated in 2011 to purpose-built, modern, high-quality facilities in Curraheen, Cork. Marymount is an independent voluntary hospital with University status and is a registered charity and company limited by guarantee. As the specialist palliative care service for Cork city and county, Marymount Hospice serves as a centre for coordinating the delivery of palliative care services across all care settings in Cork. It is also closely allied to the specialist palliative care services in Kerry.

Organised by Cork City Council, the marathon has three distances: the Full Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10K race. The routes weave through Cork City’s scenic and vibrant streets and suburbs, past iconic landmarks and along the bustling quays. The incredible support from Corkonians lining the streets, paired with the camaraderie among participants, guarantees a memorable day for all.

The Cork City Marathon is open to all, from elite athletes chasing records to first-time runners tackling personal goals. It's more than a race—it’s about community, resilience, and making a difference.

Building on the €200,000 raised for 58 charity partners in 2024, we aim to double this target in the coming years. With our new tagline ‘Your Race, Their Hope.’ We encourage participants to run for causes close to their hearts, making every stride on June 1 count towards vital, life-changing work.
 
As a full member of AIMs the Cork marathon is IAAF certified.
