In March 2021 My father passed away after a short battle with motor neuron disease. Life hasn’t been the same since and probably won’t be the same again. However true is great pain came some great lessons And I find myself with the grateful opportunity to be able to run the Dublin marathon 2024. I will also run the Dublin Half-Marathon alongside running 600 kilometres between July and September in an attempt to raise as much funds as I possibly can for IMNDA I’ve always had a passion for running and it was a passion my father encouraged. I have not ran as consistently as I would’ve liked over the last few years And therefore this marathon will be a big challenge. It will be a greater honour and I deeply look forward to the challenge and the ability to raise money for such a much-needed charity and such an under funded charity.

Owner messages:

Filled with all sorts of emotion but mainly gratitude today! So grateful for everyone who’s left any sort of contribution and I can’t think you all enough times! I’ll be back for more soon Alex 🫡

Two weeks out from Dublin Marathon and I’m well and truly in recovery mode now, 34km ran last Sunday and it was my final long run. Once again I find myself absolutely blown away by everyone’s generosity and just wanted to thank anyone that has left a contribution or shared the page or a post in relation to the fundraiser. Hope to do this marathon justice and make my dad proud. See you all in two weeks! Alex 🫡

Today marks 300km ran out of the 600km, pledged, halfway and finished with a nice 24km run. Now seems like a good a time as any to announce my next part of the fundraiser. On top of running the remaining 300kms pledged I will also be rewalking a portion of the camino de santiago that me and my father walked in 2017. Sarria to Santiago (approx. 125km) has a very sentimental place in my heart as it by and large my fondest memory of my dad and I’m looking forward to this next challenge Alex🫡

About Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association

The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA) is the only organisation of its kind in the country providing specialised services to families affected by Motor Neurone Disease. We offer consistent support to approximately 450 families across Ireland who otherwise would have nowhere else to turn. Everybody with MND has different needs at different stages of their journey and we are here to help and guide them every step of the way. The services provided by the IMNDA are immediate and free of charge for everyone registered with the Association. Key services include: • Access to 6 outreach nurses directly employed by the IMNDA and funded entirely by donations. • Access to a home care grant. • Access to specialised equipment on loan (e.g. wheelchairs, hoists, communication aids etc). • Access to funding towards counselling sessions for the person with MND and family members. Your support is absolutely vital. More than 85% of our income comes from fundraising and donations.
