Why I'm Raising Awareness for GIST 💛 A close friend of mine was diagnosed with GIST last year—a cancer I had never even heard of before. Watching everything she has been through has been incredibly difficult, but she continues to amaze me every single day with her strength, courage, and positive attitude. She truly is one of the bravest people I know. 💛 That's why, on Sunday 20th September, four of us will be taking on the Belfast Half Marathon to raise awareness and funds for GIST. If you're able to donate, no matter how big or small, we would be so grateful. Every donation will help support vital research and raise awareness of this rare cancer. What is GIST? GIST (Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumour) is a rare type of cancer that develops in the soft tissues of the digestive system. Because it is so uncommon, many people have never heard of it until it affects someone they love. GIST most commonly develops in the stomach or small intestine and is caused by changes in specialised cells in the digestive tract that lead to uncontrolled growth. Although it is rare, early diagnosis and access to effective treatments can make a significant difference.
