ABOUT THE CHARITY
HDANI (Huntington's Disease Association NI)
Huntington's Disease (HD) is a terminal brain disease with symptoms usually starting at mid adulthood causing a progressive loss of control over thoughts, feelings, behaviour, movement and communication until the person requires 24 hour care. There are over 150 families affected by HD in Northern Ireland.
HDANI's vision is for Huntington's Disease families to remain active, involved, connected, valued and supported and leading as independent and normal a life as possible.
Every child born of a parent with HD has a 50% chance of inheriting the disease and in some families several people will have symptoms at the same time causing an incredible stress on carers and loved ones.
We provide specialist practical and emotional support to families with all aspects of their lives helping relieve the burden facing them. We create opportunities for families to connect, learn, share and have fun. We offer counselling and therapies and also educate professionals about the disease.
