Telefonseelsorge Berlin e.V. was founded in 1956 as the first telephone counselling service in Germany. Inspired by the Samaritans, it was set up to address the high suicide rate in West-Berlin in the 1950s. Telefonseelsorge’ s mission is still to prevent suicide and to support mental health, but the remit has widened considerably. Our volunteers provide emotional support on the telephone 24/7. In addition, in 2016 we set up a counselling service for those bereaved by Suicide or living with a suicidal person. Here we provide free counselling sessions as well as moderated groups. We also run ant-stigma campaigns and organise or participate in public events about the topic.
